We are carrying out daytime blood donations from October 2017. We are looking for healthy females aged 18-42 (inclusive) to attend our London Bridge Unit for either a morning or afternoon appointment on one of the specified donations dates to give blood the same day. You will be required to stay for a maximum of 4 hours.

This blood will be used for medical research purposes. Where it will be used to modify and advance laboratory methods to aid in the development of new medicines.

You will receive £65 for donating approximately 415 mL of blood.

To donate blood you must regularly be taking a combined estrogen and progestin oral contraceptive pill, 1 month prior to the donation.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING IN YOUR CONTRACEPTIVE PACK TO VERIFY YOU ARE TAKEN THE PILLS MENTIONED ABOVE.


Study Criteria

  • Aged between 18-42, fit and healthy with normal blood pressure and heart rate and weigh more than 50kg.
  • You must not have smoked a cigarette for at least three months.
  • You must not have any medical problems like asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, anemia.
  • You must not have donated blood in the last 4 months.
  • You must not have taken any recreational drugs in the last 6 weeks (including cannabis, speed, ecstasy, cocaine, LSD etc).
  • You must not have taken any prescription or over the counter medication in the last 14 days (including painkillers, antibiotics, cough/cold treatments, throat lozenges, sleeping tablets, inhalers, foot powder, injections, vaccinations, herbal remedies, allergy tablets, vitamins, minerals, medicated creams, sunscreens, self-tanning lotions, energy drinks).
  • You must not have any condition associated with excessive blood loss.
  • You must not have any alcohol or caffeine; tea, coffee, chocolate, cola from 48 hours before the blood donation

Study Summary

You will be asked to attend the RPL unit at our London Bridge Site either for a morning or afternoon appointment on one of the specified donation dates and remain in the RPL unit for a maximum of 4 hours until the blood collection has been completed.
