Summary
- We are conducting a study for participants with heart failure aged 40 to 80.
- We will conduct a number of clinical assessments, to better understand and monitor changes in your standard of care over a period of time, and gather your perspectives on routine diagnostic procedures and disease monitoring as well as your feedback on the design of heart failure trials. Your feedback could potentially enhance the design of future heart failure studies.
- You will have the opportunity to gain insight into the processes involved in conducting a typical heart failure clinical trial.
- You will be reimbursed for your time and effort in this study.
If you are interested in participating in this observational study:
- You will need to attend an in-person visit, we will perform tests and clinical assessments. For example, we will take blood, measure your vital signs, check the activity of your heart and carry out a physical examination. The assessments can be spread over multiple days (if required).
- In addition to the above, we will monitor changes in your standard of care over a period of time, gain your perspectives on standard of care and routine diagnostic procedures, and your feedback on the design of heart failure studies.
- You will have a follow-up telephone call with a doctor after the initial visit to discuss the results of the assessments.
- This means that the whole study will take approximately 18 months and in total, you will come to the unit at least 4 times.
Who can take part?
We will check your suitability for the clinical trial using the following criteria:
- You are aged between 40 to 80 years (inclusive).
- You must have been diagnosed with heart failure.
- You must be able and willing to provide informed consent.
- You must be willing and able to comply with study requirements.

Payment
In recognition of the time and effort involved in taking part in the study, you will receive £150 on completion of each study visit, provided you comply fully with all the study requirements.

We are based in London Bridge near both the Underground and overhead train Stations.

Study Summary
We are conducting a study for participants with genetically diagnosed alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (Alpha 1) who are interested in participating in future gene editing clinical trials.
In this study, we are recruiting participants with Alpha 1 (with a known or suspected PiZZ mutation) aged 18 to 70. We will give you a tour of the clinical trials unit and conduct a number of clinical assessments to establish your current health status.
This study is to help participants with Alpha 1 decide if they want to participate in future gene editing clinical trials.

- This means the whole process takes approximately 1 week.
